: : : Mark, : : : Sorry to bother you..but I'm stuck. : : : I am migrating from win2K to XP by building a new xp disk and then migrating my applications & data (one by one) to the XP disk to assure they work properly and I have latest drivers, etc.... : : : I loaded & licensed FM on the new XP disk OK - no problems. : : : I copied all files from my_data folder on the win2K disk to my_data on the XP disk, but FM on the XP disk will not recognize the copied FM files. : : : I recall the last time I upgraded a system I had to go into DOS and correct all the FM file attributes on the FM files that I copied to the "new" my_data folder. Once the file attributes were set properly (on the new target folder), then all worked OK. : : : I just can't remember what I did back then :( : : : I'm sure you will know how to properly copy all the files from one disk to another and get me going. : : : Thanks : : : Mike : : : : Hi Mike, : : All you should need to do is copy the files over. Portfolio files have the extension of .mm4, and investments are .dat. You'll want to make sure to keep all your portfolios and investments in the same relative location to each other. What happens when you try to open a portfolio or some invstments? Do you get some sort of error message? : : Thanks, : : Mark : : -- : : Mark Beiley : : Fund Manager, portfolio management software for Windows 95/98/ME/NT/00/XP/2003 : : : : : Mark, : I copied the files from (2k drive) d:\..\fund manager\my_data to (xp drive) c:\..\fund manager\my_data. Confirm that files have copied. I even tried rename folders such as my-data_old and replace the entire folder from the 2K drive. : I start FM in XP and tried to open a portfiolo (that was newly copied), but no files appear in the 'open' diaglog box. : I remember the last time I did this, an archive bit (or something) was set on all the FM files that I copied during the copy process. I used the 'attribute' DOS command to reset the bit (file attribute) on all FM files and it started working. - - but I can not remember details ;(( : If you are not aware of this,, I'll screw with it some more and figure out what I did in order to make FM recognize the copied files. : tx : Mike : Hi Mike, To the best of my knowledge the attribute bit should not affect anything here. When you open the "File / Open Investments..." dialog are you looking in the right folder on the right drive, where you just copied the investments? Notice there is a "Look In" drop down box on the top of the dialog, where you can change to the folder where you copied your investments, and you should then see them listed...
