: : i have worked on this for a couple of hours now. i have had to enter historical exchange rates for can. manually (obtained from oanda.com) since yahoo historical gave an error message. plus all the various (yes, different from different places, the rate from yahoo for today differed from the one given by oanda) don't give convert to the numbers that are in fact being entered in my broker's account. at this point i have to say that trying to use conversion is not working for me. seems like it is best to use the work around mentioned earlier. maybe i'll figure out how to make this work (assuming that there is a way) at another time.

: Hi Jeffrey,

: Yes, it appears Yahoo doesn't offer historical quotes for this exchange rate. Also, since this is a fairly common question, I just posted a new tutorial on setting up multiple currencies in a portfolio. See:

: Thanks,

thanks for the new tutorial. wish i had that it before. nevertheless, it doesn't solve the problem. i am not saying that this is fm problem, but having what is supposed to be the exchange rate (i tried the rate for the day of trade and previous day), and us$ stock purchase price, converting the price and commission before recording the trade, doesn't yield the number that i was told was the total for the trade and commission by the broker. i am guessing that the exchange rate is the problem, but unless i have access to the same rates the broker is using, setting up foreign currency will only give appoximate, not exact figures, for trade amounts, reports, etc.
