: When there's a spin off I don't have to pay anything for the stock recieved. When entering the new child investment info in FM it asks for the cost basis of the received shares. If you get the shares without a charge shouldn't this be zero?

Hi Bill,

It depends on the details of your spin-off. Sometimes a portion of the cost basis is transferred. You'll want to check with your broker to find out the cost basis for your new shares.

Thanks,
Mark
