sometimes it would be good to have global settings, rather that have defaults to whatever was last used.

: It sounds like your new investments are set to an investment type of "Cash". Each investment type is set up with different defaults. The cash investment type has the internet retrieve property turned off, and does not use commissions for your transaction entry preference. When you create your new investment, change the investment type to stock if you are tracking something with a commission and want it to retrieve prices by default. The initial value of the investment type is memorized for the new investment dialog. Whatever you last new investment type was, this will be the default the next time you open the new investment dialog.
