Sorry for the delay in replying, a had a touch of disk reformatting and system rebuilding to do! Thank God for backups.

You're a star. Somewhere along the line I'd reverted the regional settings to USA! I hadn't realised that settings were picked up from there.

All seems to be functioning OK now.
