.html.: : : : : When I use the feature now I get a message on the page returned by Yahoo that "There are no headlines at the moment." However if I click on Charts on the Yahoo page and from the charts page click on News, I get the normal news page.
: : : : : Something likely changed at Yahoo.
: : : : Hi Wayne,
: : : : What symbol are you using? When I test this with INTC it seems to work.
: : : : The default URL will take you to:
: : : : http://biz.yahoo.com/n/i/intc.html
: : : : which does seem to work.
: : : : Thanks,

: : : I think I figured out what does and doesn't work. I am Canadian so a lot of my stocks are on the main Canadian exchange (the Toronto Stock Exchange). Yahoo represents Canadian stocks in their database with a .TO suffix (e.g. Research in Motion's symbol on the TSE is RIM. Yahoo lists it as RIM.TO).
: : : Accessing web news using the xxx.TO symbol always worked in the past but something has changed and it appears not to work anymore. I use Yahoo as the source for stock updates in Fund Manager & so need to list the .TO name to download from the Yahoo site. But then web news no longer works.
: : : RIM is one company that is listed on both NASDAQ and the TSE. In this case I could use the NASDAQ symbol instead of the TSE symbol & it would work (more or less the same). Many Canadian stocks however are listed only on the TSE.
: : : Workarounds??
: : : Notify Yahoo of the problem if at their end? (Do you have an inside track there?)
: : : If you can correct the problem it would be appreciated.

: : Hi Wayne,
: : You can fix this by changing your news URL to:
: : http://biz.yahoo.com/n/ca//.html: : under "Options/Preferences...".
: : Note, this will result in the URL of:
: : http://biz.yahoo.com/n/ca/R/RIM.html
: : for a symbol RIM.TO
: : The will take all characters of the symbol up to, but not including
: : the period.: : Thanks,
: : Mark

: Hello again Mark,
: The solution you proposed works for stocks listed on the TSE but not for US stiocks. I assume that the /ca forces Yahoo to interpret the symbol as Canadian. Therefore "http://biz.yahoo.com/n/ca//.html" does not work for non-TSE listed stocks. My portfolio is a combination of Canadian and US listed stocks.: Wayne
Hi Wayne,
Unfortunately, Yahoo keeps separate news URLs for US vs. Canadian. You might
want to take a look at another server, like CBS Marketwatch. I checked and
it seems to use a common URL, but the Canadian symbols are different from Yahoo:
http://cbs.marketwatch.com/tools/quotes/quotes.asp?symb=CA:RIM&vc=0&siteid=mktw&dist=dropmenu
http://cbs.marketwatch.com/tools/quotes/quotes.asp?symb=INTC&vc=0&siteid=mktw&dist=dropmenu
Thanks,
Mark
