: I have suddenly found historical prices dating six months before I bought a security (Merck). When I run the Portfolio Performance Report it gives performance based on the original price (not the purchase price). This security apparently split between the date of the first price on file, and the date I bought, resulting in a current price of about 1/2 of the original. Result: a huge error in the GAIN.

: 1) Why doesn't the report base its data on the purchase date, rather than a meaningless earlier date.

The report displays the figures based on the date range of the report, which
you can specify. By default, the report starts on the earliest recorded
price date. Even if the report started before your purchase there should
not be an error in the gain though. It sounds like you may have retrieved
prices that were not adjusted for this split, yet you have not recorded
the split? This would cause a high purchase value, and a low current value,
resulting in a low gain.

Another possibility is that you retrieved these prices from Yahoo (Historical),
and did have the split recorded, but have "View/Split Adjusted" turned on
while retrieving. In earlier versions (before 4.2), you had to make sure
you had this option turned the correct way before retrieving. In 4.2, FM
now makes sure this is set properly before retrieving from one of the
historical Yahoo servers. If this is the case, then you can just re-retrieve
the historical prices.

: 2) How did all that historical data get there? I wasn't even thinking about buying Merck in February -- the earliest date of prices

Could you have retrieved these prices using the "Yahoo (Historical)" quote server? Somehow you must have either retrieved or imported this data...

: 3) How can I delete all those earlier prices? I don't want to delete them one at a time...it would take all night! And the normal GUI convention of using Shift key to highlight all doesn't work.

See the "Edit/Delete Price" menu commands. You can delete a range of
prices from there.

Mark
