: : : : : : : : : : : I"ve asked this question befor and did not get an adequate answer so I hope that this time will be different. The stack order of the charts and reports seems to be calculated differently and causes much confusion. It looks like the charts are generated using the closing price of both ends of the date range but the reports are generated using the opening price for the geginning date and the closeing price of the ending date of the range. This causes the stack order to differ between the charts and reports if the two are set to the same date range.

: : : : : : : : : : : Sometimes I can get satisfactory results if I set the chart range one trading day earlier than the report but even then there is often one or two out of order in the report.

: : : : : : : : : : : There is no trouble with my data and I hope you can address this problem soon and offer a fix for it.

: : : : : : : : : : : Also why is there no abiliy to arrange the reports by %gain-F?.

: : : : : : : : : : Hi Ken,
: : : : : : : : : : It sounds like you are really not asking about the stack order, but
: : : : : : : : : : getting agreement between graph and report values when doing sorting? There is only one stack order, and the order of investments displayed in the graphs is the same as the order the investments are listed on reports, which is the order of the stack.
: : : : : : : : : : Which type of sorting are you doing that doesn't seem to be consistent
: : : : : : : : : : between graphs/reports? Are you sorting by value? The value used is the
: : : : : : : : : : current value, independent of the graph dates. For a description of how
: : : : : : : : : : each of the sorting algorithms operate, go to the "Main Menu Commands" topic
: : : : : : : : : : in the online help, there is a description under the "Investments/Sort By"
: : : : : : : : : : area. Also, there is an "Investment/Sort By/%Gain-F" availabe from
: : : : : : : : : : the main graph menu.

: : : : : : : : : : If this still does not seem to work as you expect please provide a specific
: : : : : : : : : : example of what steps you take, and where you are looking at results
: : : : : : : : : : that don't make sense. This will help us to answer your question more
: : : : : : : : : : clearly.

: : : : : : : : : : Thanks,
: : : : : : : : : : Mark

: : : : : : : : : I'm tyring to sort using the %gain-F feature

: : : : : : : : You can sort by %Gain-F for the date range of each individual graph, only
: : : : : : : : from within the graphs menu.

: : : : : : : Yes, I know that. AGAIN!!! regardless of what the menu says it does, in reality it often does something different. More times than not one or more of the investments in the stack is out of order when I sort by %gain-F.

: : : : : : Hi Ken,

: : : : : : I can understand your frustration with not being able to get
: : : : : : your question answered, but I am making every effort to try
: : : : : : and sincerely answer your question. It would be helpful if
: : : : : : future comments could be phrased in a courteous manner.

: : : : : : This is from the online help under the main menu commands topic
: : : : : : for 'Investments / Sort By':

: : : : : : *********************************
: : : : : : % Gain-F (gph)

: : : : : : Sorts investment stack by decreasing %Gain-F. The % Gain-F for the term of each displayed graph is used.
: : : : : : *********************************

: : : : : : Each individual investment graph can possibly have a different (gph) date
: : : : : : range. The date range of the graph is used for the the %Gain-F that is
: : : : : : used for sorting. Reports have a constant date range, applied to all
: : : : : : investments. If you are using the %Gain-F sorting in the graphs window,
: : : : : : check that the date range of your graphs are all the same as the date
: : : : : : range of your report that you are displaying %Gain-F in.

: : : : : : You can also do the following to check that the sorting is working properly.
: : : : : : Turn off "View/Graphs" and turn on "View/Yields" from the main menu.
: : : : : : Then, you will see the "%Gain-F" reported in the graphs window.
: : : : : : After sorting by %Gain-F you will see all the investments sorted by
: : : : : : this value.

: : : : : : Thanks,
: : : : : : Mark

: : : : : OK, I'm starting to see it. As a suggestion, it seems like it would be useful if the reports could be sorted by %gain-F from their own menu. That way the date range in the charts would be irrelevant and it would not require a person to work in two windows at once.

: : : : Hi Ken,
: : : : I agree, that would be a good addition. Thanks for the feedback.

: : : Having the same trouble again...I have a 30-investment portfolio that I sort by %gain-F. An investment with a 13% gain comes before an investment with a 27% gain. However, if I set up a custom report that only displays %gain-F, beginning NAV and ending NAV that same investment with the 13% gain now shows a 31% gain.

: : : I re-state my original question...why does the report use the closing price of the day before the beginning date range?

: : : For example one of the beginning NAV closing prices in the report says $28.81 on 12/20/99 but in fact according to the data downloaded from Yahoo it was $29.25 on 12/20/99 and it was the 12/17/99 price that was $28.81.

: : Hi Ken,
: : Which report type are you referring to? In the "Investment Performance"
: : report, the Beginning NAV is the closing NAV of the beginning report date.
: : Many of the reports are as you describe however, inclusive of the activity on
: : the beginning and ending report dates. That means, the starting values
: : are the close of the prior day, which is the same as the opening at the
: : start of the report.

: : Thanks,
: : Mark

: I'm refering to a custom report I created. Is there a way to have the reports and graphs always use the same data for a given date range? It would be easier to keep track of if all reports and all graphs used the date range identically rather than some reports using using the previous day closing price.

Hi Ken,
Sorry, but I told you wrong, the Investment Performance report also
works the same way, the Beg NAV is the closing price of the day before
the starting report date.

Thanks,
Mark
