: : : I have changed the location of the data directory. Of course the Portfolios no longer point to the correct files. Can I change the directory that the portfolios want to look at? (description of the full file path in portfolio)

: : Hi Charlie,
: : Which version of FM are you using? As of FM 4.0 and later, portfolios
: : now store the path to their investments, as relative to the location
: : of the portfolio file itself. This allows you to move your whole data
: : directory to a new location, without having to modify your portfolio.
: : If you are using an older version of FM, or the relative path changed,
: : you will have to either re-create or modify your portfolios. Portfolios
: : are fairly easy to re-create as you can open multiple investments at once
: : with the "File/Open Investment(s)..." command. Portfolio files (*.mm4) are
: : just text files, so if you want, you can edit them with a text editor, to
: : update the path of the investments. A global search/replace could come
: : in handy.

: : Thanks,
: : Mark

: Mark, Looking at a hex dump of the Data files, the complete file path is stored there. So if I create a whole new path for the data and program (ver 4.3). do i just recreate the portfolio?

Charlie,
Please do not look in the .dat files, the path there is for FM's use only.
It has nothing to do with your portfolio. Where you can look is in the
text portfolio file (*.mm4). You'll see the path's listed at the beginning
of this file between [FILES] and [ENDFILES].

Thanks,
Mark
