: I saw the message below regarding the cash account but it doesn't quite apply to me. I'm having a really hard time figuring out the cash account. In one of my portfolios I did two sales and only one of them reflected a credit to the cash account. In another, a Fido account, the easiest way to do the fees since I couldn't acctually do a percentage was to enter an account fee in my cash account. I have entered it as a negative number and have unchecked the "reinvested" box and it does not subtract this amount from the cash total. What am I doing wrong? Thanks,
: Diane

Hi Diane,

To have the funds from all your recorded transactions go into/out of
your cash account you must have it designated as your "Default Cash Account"
under "Options/Preferences.../Other". By default, there is no investment
assigned as your cash account. To make an investment your default cash
account you must go in there and set it that way. Once you set your
default cash account make sure to save your portfolio (File/Save Portfolio),
as this is one of the settings that is memorized as part of your portfolio.

The account fee is just a distribution. An "account fee" distribution is
normally recorded as negative, as you have done. This is correct. By
unchecking the "reinvested" option, you are saying that you paid money out
of pocket to cover this account fee. This is just like a negative
distributed distribution. The share balance does not get affected. If your
account fee was paid by withdrawing funds from your cash account, you
would want to record this as a "reinvested account fee", and you can specify
how many shares you redeemed. Cash accounts are normally kept at $1, so you
would just redeem the same number of shares as the fee.

Thanks,
Mark
