: I can't seem to find the right place to get updates and historical data on a number of indicies. What are the best symbols to use, since I've seen a number of variations, for DOW, NASDAQ, S&P 500, RUSSELL 2000 and Pacific Exchange Technology? Bernie Katz

Hi Bernie,
Yahoo has all of these. You'll have to visit Yahoo with your browser
and look up the symbols, but they all start with a "^". For example, the
Dow is ^DJI on Yahoo. They also have historical prices, so if you choose
the "Yahoo (Historical)" quote server you can get historical quotes as well.

I just did a quick search, and this page should be a good start:

http://biz.yahoo.com/f/q.html#indices

Thanks,
Mark
