: : : I recently bought a new computer, downloaded FM 4.5, and uploaded my saved dat
: : : files into the new program. It appears that I botched the initial file upload-
: : : my three individual mutual fund dat files are each appearing as individual
: : : portfolios (but with dat file extensions). I cannot open each file individually-
: : : they stack on top of each other when opened, rather than three individual graphs
: : : on the screen. Is there some way to clean up the mess I created?

: : Hi Jim,
: :
: : Did you have any portfolio (mm4) files that you transferred, or just
: : investment (dat) files? Where are the dat files appearing as portfolios?
: : What do you mean by they stack on top of each other?

: : You should always be able to at least go back to "File/Open Investment(s)..."
: : and open up your *.dat investment files.

: : Thanks,
: : Mark

: Mark,
: It appears that my dat files are behaving like mm4 files. I have three mutual
: fund files (dat files), that, when opened sequentially (File-Open Investment),
: are visible on the upper left part of the screen but stacked on top of each
: other (even with the view "4" function selected- I can only see one at a time).
: Each graph is titled "Portfolio Gain-H" in the case of the Gain graph. If I
: select "close top investment", the top graph is closed, and the next investment
: file/graph remains underneath it. I cannot open the three dat files and see them
: all as separate graphs.
: Is it possible that when I first set up FM 4.5 and uploaded my three dat files
: they were imported as porfolio files? There are no mm4 files in Autobak or My_Data
: folders right now, and I don't believe I uploaded any mm4's in the process of
: conversion to FM 4.5.
: I do have the original dat files on floppy disks, so I may retrace my steps and
: reinstall/import the original dat files and see what that does, unless you have
: any other suggestions. Thanks

The problem is you are looking at a "Portfolio" based graph, so you will
only see one graph. If you want, change your graph type to "Share Price"
or something, and you will see all your graphs. You can also see a list
of your open investments under the "Investments" menu.

Thanks,
Mark
