: : : Hi Mark, : : : Just got a new laptop and I would like to tranfer FM from my desktop to laptop : : : using a 3 1/2 inch floppy. The floppy capacity is 1.44 MB. The FM folder size is 1.6 MB. I can't tranfer the whole folder at once and I haven't figured out how to break down FM into individual files. Is there a way to break down FM into individual files or is FM one huge file? Right slicking on the FM icon and then on property indicates that it is one file. I'm missing something here. It can't be on huge file. Help!! : : Hi Roger, : : The distributed file to install FM from (fundmn46.exe) is larger than will : : fit on a single floppy. If you have an internet connection on your : : laptop you can download the file to it's hard drive, and then install : : FM on your laptop. You need to run the installation program to set : : up FM on your laptop, you cannot just copy the directory containing : : FM on your desktop to your laptop. The installation program sets up : : various other items, such as registry settings. : : After you install FM transfer your investment and portfolio files to : : the laptop. : : This is unrelated to FM, but for transferring large files between : : computers there are many other options, including programs like "LapLink", : : or zipping files across multiple disks. If you're going to be : : transfering very many files floppy disks are quite slow... : : Thanks, : : Mark : : -- : : Mark Beiley : : : : Fund Manager for Windows 3.1x/95/98/NT : : : : : Hi Mark, : Thanks for the advice. : I was able to download FM directly into my laptop from Bailey's website and then transfer over my data files by copying "my data" folder on a floppy and loading it into my laptop. : Do you think the whole tranfer bit could be done using Zip drives? Just bought a new Zip drive for my laptop and theres one with my desktop. Capacity is 100 MB. I'm not familiar with Laplink;I'm going to check it out. : Thanks again Mark, Roger Hi Roger, Glad you got it worked out. Yes, zip drives would be easier than floppies, as they hold more data. Laplink, or the equivalent, is even easier though... Thanks, Mark -- Mark Beiley
