new default cash account is negative

New user setting up, perhaps I just dont get it...

My transactiion data is downloaded and correct, however
the default cash account value = (current cash balance -
initial cash balance). i.e. it is negative [since I bought
stocks].

The net effect is that a graph of portfolio value actually
shows portfolio gain.

Seems I need to manualy add an initial transaction accounting
for the initial cash in the the account.

How do I do this?

Or am I completely missing the point on cash & portfolio value?
