Re: Recording an ETF Dividend[ Message Board ] [ Archives ] [ Search ] Posted by Mark on January 11, 2006 at 15:54:57:In Reply to: Recording an ETF Dividend posted by John Swanson on January 11, 2006 at 13:17:10: : This question may be a result of my not understanding Fund Manager and the fact that this is the first time I have purchased a “stock.” Previously I had only had mutual funds whose dividends were reinvested immediately into the same fund. That was simple to record. Now I have purchased shares in a couple of Exchange Traded Funds (ETF). One has earned a dividend and the amount was credited to the case account in the brokerage portfolio. How do I record the dividend into the ETF and then to the case account? By the way, when I went to the “Investment properties” | “Type” I had expected to see a category for ETF. What category do you suggest for an ETF? Thanks.
You pretty much record it in the same manner as you would for a reinvested distribution, except in the "Distribution Transaction" dialog remove the "Reinvested" check. When you remove the reinvested option, you will see the "Shares" and "Price" edit boxes removed. If you have a default cash account assigned to the portfolio this investment is in, the proceeds will automatically be deposited into the cash account. Otherwise, you can record a buy transaction into your cash account for the amount of the distribution. The "investment type" option is really up to you. There is no functionality difference, it is just how that investment's value is categorized when you plot or report by investment type. Thanks,
