: Having a hard time with the separation of Viacom Corp. Class B into CBS Corp. and Viacom Corp. Class B New. I purchased three different lots at three different times of old Viacom. When I enter the spin-off of old Viacom into the new stocks, FM don’t keep the old purchase dates causing the lose of long-term and short-term gain/ loss tracking. In addition, FM doesn’t remove the shares for old Viacom nor does it remove the cost but treats the separation as a ROC. Thus I end up having a real mess for the value and cost of the portfolio both historically and going forward.

: If I enter CBS & Viacom - New as purchases using the original dates from when I purchased old Viacom, my historical reports and IRS Sch. D are wrong

: I am using FM – Personal Version

: Help!!!

Hi Jim,

Are you recording 2 spin-offs, or just one for the new CBS Corp shares? Maybe you can describe some of the specifics (or at least a hypothetical example)? How many shares did you have before, and how many of each did you have after? What is the approximate value before/after of each?

Thanks,
Mark
