Re: Portfolio Performance Report Beginning Values[ Message Board ] [ Archives ] [ Search ] Posted by Mark on August 15, 2006 at 10:07:57: In Reply to: Portfolio Performance Report Beginning Values posted by Steve on August 14, 2006 at 23:32:24: : On a portfolio begun in May 2004, I'm attempting to construct a Portfolio Performance Report between the dates 7/29/05 to 7/31/06. One would assume the securities values depicted on the beginning value column would be the values tabulated from 7/29/05, as I stipulated on the report date settings. However, the value tabulated is definitly NOT from this date. Actually, the value shown appears to be the value at investment initiation. Having initially downloaded price from Yahoo historical, I tried manually entering price date from 7/29/05, to no avail. : How do I create a report that shows a column with security values as priced on date 7/29/05 on the left, with the values as of date 7/31/06 on the right, with the proper cash balances on each of these dates?
The "Beginning Value" field in the Portfolio Performance report is the value as of the opening of the starting report date. So, if your starting report date is 7/29/05, the beginning value is the value at the end of 7/28/05 (which is the same as the morning of 7/29/05), but not the end of day 7/29/05. The report is inclusive of gains on the starting report date, so any increase in value on 7/29 itself will be included in the Invested/Distrib/Gain columns. To create the report you describe, set the starting report date to 7/30/05 and end date to 7/31/05. It is easiest to just think that the starting/ending report dates are always inclusive of whatever happens on those days. Thanks,
