recording dividend paid out of portfolio to shareholder

hi. how do i record a dividend that the portfolio paid out to a stock holder? it wasn't the security that paid this dividend out, but my portfolio which paid out an amount to a shareholder. do i just use the sell function from the cash account? or do i use the return of capital function> thanks again.
