Weird thing with reinvestment type

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby Djobydjoba » Fri Apr 04, 2014 5:06 am

Hi Mark,

Scanning the transactions, I've noticed a weird thing :

In some investments in foreign currencie, some account fee distributions appear as "Reinvestment", not as "Account Fee Reinvestment" as in investments in default currency. I'm pretty sure they have been recorded as account fee distribution though.
Opening theses transactions, the transaction window seems a Buy/Sell type.
In the Investment Transactions report, these transactions appear correctly as "RnvAcct Fee".
Problem not seen in investments in default currency

I've no idea since when the changes occurred. During an upgrade of FM perhaps.

Here is a screenshot :

Hi Djobydjoba,

What version of Fund Manager are you using? Can you email me this investment file (*.dat), so I can take a look here?
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Djobydjoba,

Thanks for the investment file. That investment file has a few inconsistencies, causing these problems. I wasn't able to reproduce creating this problem here. Do you have any old copies of that investment file, like maybe from before you installed FM 2014 Beta? If you have any old backups (*.FMB) those would work too. I'd like to see if the problem was present before you upgraded to FM 2014 Beta. If you have either the old *.dat file, or an old *.fmb file, please email that to me as well.
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Djobydjoba,

Thanks. We were able to find/fix this problem. It won't fix your current transactions, but the fix will prevent this from happening in the future. The problem was if you edit the transaction specific exchange rate on a reinvested distribution the transaction could become corrupt. I would suggest deleting these transactions, and re-entering them. You may get some errors when deleting. If so, delete them under both "All Transactions" and also just "Distributions". Entering them as new transactions will be fine. The problem only occurred if you edited the existing reinvestment, and changed the transaction specific exchange rate. This bug will be fixed for the next release. Thanks for your help finding it.
Thanks,
Mark
