Questions on using, creating, or understanding data in Fund Manager graphs.

Mark:
I'm using FM 8.9/391/127 and having an inconsistant problem. After updating by using the "up-arrow PRC" icon, and asking for COST-VALUE, the graphs often come up in the "Earliest to date" for the Date Range. I change that to "Last 12 months" and check the "Apply Changes To All Open Investments" and revise the Date Range. Then I click the "Save Investments" and "Save changes to current portfolio" - The next time I use FM after an exit and re-entry, it will often require that I again change from "Earliest to date" to "Last 12 months" all over again.
Is there some way to retain the Date Range setting from one FM session to the next?
Best regards, Chuck

Hi Chuck,
Your graph date range preferences are associated with each graph window. Graph windows and all of their settings are stored in the portfolio file. If you save your portfolio while you still have that graph window open, then the next time you open this portfolio, that graph window will be re-created and use the same date settings.
What could be happening is that if you close the graph window and save the portfolio, those preferences will be lost. Note, there is a "Options / Save Portfolio On Exit" command. If this is on, and you close the graph window, and then exit Fund Manager, you're re-saving the portfolio without that graph window (and all of its settings).

Now using FM 9.0/400/127. Still having trouble with continual resets of the graph ranges. Date range continually resets to "Earliest to Date" if at anytime while displaying one of three possible sub-portfolios graphs, I "X" ("X" at top right of graph) out of that graph display. Also, having trouble about the name shown at the heading of a graph (top left) not agreeing with the sub-portfolio being graphed. Clicking the save portfolio icon will correct this heading but destroys the graph ranges in the other two sub-portfolios.
Is there something weird I've set up using FM???
Best regards, Chuck

Hi Chuck,
When you click the 'X' in the upper right corner, you are closing that window, and losing any preferences associated with that graph window. Your date ranges are associated with the graph window, so when you close it, you are losing your preferences. If you want to keep your preferences, don't close the window...
What graph type are you looking at? It may be that you are using one of the overlay graph types, and have chosen to overlay a sub-portfolio other than the "active" sub-portfolio. Did you mean to say that 'opening' the portfolio again corrects it? I wouldn't expect 'saving' the portfolio to do anything here. If this doesn't clarify things, maybe you can email me a screen shot, showing the problem.

When I'm in one sub-portfolio with a "Cost - Value" graph showing and I change to different sub-portfolio and then go to "Graphs" and ask for "Cost - Value", the new graph will come up with the name of the previous sub-portfolio in the Graphs: Cost - Value (Sub-Portfolio Name) heading at the top left of the graph. If I then click the "Save Portfolio" icon in the toolbar upper left area, the name of the sub-portfolio in the ( ) will be change to the current sub-portfolio.
This has nothing to do with the Date Ranges or Value ranges which I'd like to set and have remain constant until changed unless Automatic is selected.
Best regards, Chuck

Hi Chuck,
Thanks for the explanation, I now see this problem too. We'll get it fixed for the next beta release.
