Hi Mark,
For some reason I can't get price updates. However, I can see current prices on Web News.
Any idea what the problem is?

Yahoo price updates

Hi pieterse,
This is an issue with the Yahoo server. Fund Manager uses their "Download Data (delayed)" link in their "Toolbox" section (lower/right corner) to get the prices. That data is being reported for yesterday still. Hopefully they can fix this issue soon. You can switch to a different quote server, like Bloomberg or Google. See "Options / Internet Settings...".
Hi Mark,
I have the same issue, Yahoo isn't working so I can't get quotes. I try Bloomberg and it doesn't work. Google only has some historical options. Did I buy the wrong version of this software? How do I retrieve from finance.google.com? Currently, I'm without any quotes, unless I investigate all the other servers and redo my entire portfolio in the tickers supported by those servers. Do you have any functionality built into the software that allows tickers tied to quote servers? Otherwise I'd be forever cutting and pasting old/new tickers depending on what quote server is working. Lastly, is there an incremental to upgrade my software to have quote servers that work? Thanks, Ray.
Hi Ray,
For most US stocks/funds the symbols are the same on Yahoo as Bloomberg. You can just change the global default quote server under "Options / Internet Settings...". As long as your investments are left to the default of using the <Default Quote Server> this will change all these investments to retrieve from the new default server. If changing your default quote server to Bloomberg is not working, check these items: Investment Properties... / Internet Retrieve / Quote Server Investment Properties... / General / Symbol If you're not able to get it working, please give me a sample ticker symbol that won't retrieve from Bloomberg. The Google (Realtime) quote server is only available in the Professional/Advisor versions. Hopefully Yahoo will get this issue resolved soon.
Hi Mark,
I'm Canadian, all my stocks are from TSX. So for example, PEY.TO. It doesn't update in Bloomberg. My one US stock is updating on Bloomberg, so it appears to be working for US stocks like you say. Do you have any recommendations for an alternate quote source for Canadian TSX stocks when Yahoo is down? Do I actually have to be an "Advisor/Professional" to purchase the software that works with the Google servers? Thanks, Ray.
Hi Ray,
When dealing with international quotes, it can be tricky to switch between different servers. Yahoo uses PEY.TO, Bloomberg uses PEY:CN, and Google uses TSE:PEY. Since Yahoo is temporarily down, you can wait until their historical database updates, and use Yahoo (Historical) to get the end of day price. Since they are both Yahoo servers, the same ticker is still used. If you need intraday quotes you would either need to wait for Yahoo to resolve this issue, or change your ticker symbols in Fund Manager. As a Personal subscriber, you can use the Google historical servers, but the Google (Real-Time) is only in the Professional/Advisor version. That wouldn't solve the issue of needing to change symbols anyway. For a list of servers, and more info on each, see: https://www.fundmanagersoftware.com/intrtv.html If this Yahoo issue drags on for a few days we will have to update the Yahoo server to not use that "Download Data" link anymore. That is a very fast method when available, so hopefully they can get that fixed soon.
Mark,
Thanks for the info. Very useful. Again, this seems like the server restriction in the Personal edition is my current problem. From your link, it appears that Yahoo has a real-time option, too. Do you also use the "Download Data" link to retrieve the real-time quotes? If not, and that feed is working, my path of least resistance (depending on how long Yahoo delayed is down) is to upgrade my software version. Is it another full $295? Or $295-$89 I paid already? Thanks, Ray.
Hi Ray,
The "Yahoo (Realtime)" server is working and uses the same symbols as the regular Yahoo. It doesn't use that same "Download Data (Delayed)" link. You can download the Professional version, and evaluate it before buying. If you decide not to upgrade, just install the Personal version again. The data files are interchangeable. The upgrade fee from Personal to Professional is $260. See the pricing here: https://www.fundmanagersoftware.com/register.html
Thank you.
One last thing I've been trying as a stop-gap measure while this problem exists is this: All my stocks are in a single portfolio. The idea of copying the portfolio to a 2nd portfolio (labeled as Canada Stockwatch for example) and then changing the tickers and using the individual Internet Settings for each security to use Canada Stockwatch. The complication is that if you use Copy/Paste functionality, the same underlying data file seems to be in play, therefore the ticker change or the Internet Retrieve settings seem common to both portfolios. I just want to confirm that I'll need to create a 2nd portfolio, add each investment in NEW with new tickers and security specific retrieve settings, save their new datafiles, then copy the Transaction history for each security from the first portfolio to the 2nd portfolio. Is this the fastest way? Thanks, Ray.
I have the personal edition of FM. I encountered the same issue, as did any other Yahoo current quotes server user.
That is, Yahoo (current ) server is down at this time. I have another program which tried to access it for prices on this date 11/20/2014 and could not get the data, so that made it clear where the problem is. Yahoo (historical) server is working. I could access all data up to 11/19/2014 (yesterday). Both Bloomberg and Reuters work fine for US stocks, current prices.
Hi Ray, You can make a copy of the investment file on the hard drive. This is the *.dat file. Then, you can "open" this 2nd copy using "File / Open Investment(s)...". You can then make any modifications, and it only applies to this investment.
Hi pieterse,
Yes, Yahoo's site is still not providing updated quotes. That "Download Data" link is still proving quotes as of 11/19/2014. Unfortunately, I don't have any other status on if/when it will be fixed. We have attempted to let Yahoo know about the problem, but have not received any confirmation from them. We'll probably give it until next week, and if it still isn't fixed have to look into alternatives. If you're only interested in end of day quotes, you can switch to Yahoo (Historical), as that is providing end of day updated quotes. If you need intraday quotes then Bloomberg, Reuters, or Google are all available options. See the full list of available servers here: https://www.fundmanagersoftware.com/intrtv.html
I am not able to update prices on yahoo either... yesterday or today. Yahoo historical works fine. I am not able to update using the Bloomberg server either. After each price request it says "data received from server - xxx bytes received", but at the end of the process it says "could not update any prices". There are no other quote servers for current US listed securities available on the list to choose from. Many years ago I used PC Quote, but I can not find that server in the list of options. I am using version 9.7 with quote module 422.
Hi joeschreiber,
Bloomberg works with the current quote module (473). We only provide quote module updates for the last 2 major versions, which is currently 12.x and the 2014 versions. You would need to upgrade to get the latest quote module.
