Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager
by DaddyTheInvestor » Sat Dec 20, 2014 9:22 pm
For a couple of weeks now, I have been getting error messages when trying to update the prices in my portfolio. All of the mutual funds and ETFs update as expected with historical prices. However, every time I get the following error report for trying to retrieve from the US Treasury price server: - Code: Select all
Retrieving from server: (US TREASURY) Requesting: "912810QF8", "912810PZ5", "912828PP9", "912828NM8", "912828MF4", "912828JX9", "912828QD5", "912828MY3" Updated 480 Investments WARNING: Server used but did not update any prices: (US TREASURY)
Note: I extracted only the portion of the log file with the error about the US Treasury. The Updated 480 Investments refers to all of the other investments that updated successfully. FM then offers to retrieve the server status and it reports that the server is working and that I have an up to date downloader. Can you please help me resolve this issue? Thanks in advance!

Hi DaddyTheInvestor, Thanks for pointing out this problem. It looks like this server is not reporting "End of Day" prices for the most recent trading date. Fund Manager is requesting prices for the most recent business date from: https://www.treasurydirect.gov/GA-FI/Fe ... ceDate.htmIf I retrieve 12/19 now, all the End of Day prices are 0. However, if I request 12/18, it has End of Day prices. We'll monitor this next week and see if this trend continues. If it does, we'll probably change this server to request prices for 2 days prior, instead of 1. I'll post back here once we learn more.

Mark,
Thanks for checking into this for us. I would also like to better understand if the US Treasury server is a "current" price server or is it an "historical" price server. If it is the former only, does that imply that I would have to have FM request prices daily for my US Treasuries? I ask because I typically only update prices once a week or so.
Thanks.

Hi DaddyTheInvestor, The "US Treasury" server is considered a current quote server. It only updates the most recent available price. For this server, that is the price on the business day prior to the current date. So, for example, today is Mon 12/22, the prior business day is Fri 12/19, which is what is updated if you retrieve today. I just looked on this server, and it is now offering prices for 12/19. I also did a test retrieve, and it correctly updated prices for 12/19. I'm not sure when they actually updated these End of Day prices. I will try to keep an eye on this to determine more accurately when they release updated prices. There may be a time period if you retrieve they don't have end of day prices for the prior business day yet, and you'll end up not getting anything updated. You can read some description of how this quote server works here: https://www.fundmanagersoftware.com/int ... USTreasury

Hi DaddyTheInvestor,
Yes, you can download the prices on that "Historical" page to a CSV file, and then import it with "File / Import / Prices / Generic...".
We could automate this via a new historical quote server, but you can't retrieve historical prices from this server as of today.
I did check again today, and again End of Day prices are available for yesterday, so this server is working. I also did some test retrieves, and prices were correctly updated for yesterday.

Is it possible to download a RANGE of historical prices for US Treasuries (like the past year's closing prices) in CSV format? When I click the Historical Retrieve Button there is no option to set a range, so I assume . . .NO. Thanks

Hi followTHEmoney, If you're using this server: https://www.fundmanagersoftware.com/int ... USTreasurythat is just able to get current quotes. Some quote servers are "historical", and some are just current quotes. The "US Treasury" server is only current. You might be able to find another source for historical prices, that you could possibly import into Fund Manager. If you can get historical pricing in a CSV file format, you can import that under "File / Import / Prices / Generic...".
