Problems with cash dividends and purchase of units

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby Exspextations » Wed Dec 24, 2014 8:19 am

I am trying to import an old investment to FM - after configuring the CVS file to FM format I managed to import the transactions into the investment and associated cash file. However, while the investment transactions had the correct number of units and value. The cash position, which should have been GBP 0.00, had a large negative value. Early in the investment life interest and dividends were paid as cash followed some time later by a purchase of additional units and the problem appears to be associated with the handling of these.

I reimported the data, excluding the early cash interest and dividend payments and associated purchase of units. The investment file again looked okay and the cash file showed a zero position. I then added the first lot of interest and dividend payments after which the cash position was correct. However, when I then purchased units, the cash position showed GBP -70.48 when it should have been GBP -0.17 (see attached file).

I've tried adding the interest and dividends to the cash account and making the purchase from the investment, but this also gives the wrong cash picture.

I and adding the interest and dividend payments to the investment account as well as making the subsequent dividend purchase from the same account. I am obviously doing something wrong, but I can't figure out what - so what am I doing wrong - any suggestions?

Hi Exspextations,

I didn't follow all the details here, but I do notice that you have a non-1 price for your last transaction (redemption) on 21/7/92. For cash, all your transactions should be at a price of 1, and all your closing prices should also be 1. Change that "Data Type" to "Prices", and verify all your prices are 1. I think you also want to edit that redemption, so it is 29.03 shares and a price of 1, instead of 100.403 shares and a price of .289.
Thanks,
Mark
