FM Crashes when updating Prices

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby johnreid » Tue Feb 03, 2015 10:26 am

I am running FM 11.7, with quote module 457.
About a month ago, FM began to crash after updating four or five stocks. The error message states that FM has stopped working and Windows (8.1) is looking for a solution. It cannot find one and so closes the programme.
I have three users on the system, and they all react the same way. I have been able to update prices by doing them in smaller groups but have been unable to identify what might be causing the problem. When I hit the HELP icon, I get a message stating that that function is not available, and the next screen says I need TRANRETR.DLL in the folder with FM.exe. It is not there. Where can I find this programme and download it? Will this provide a solution to the problem? And how would I have lost this programme in the first place?

Thanks,

John Reid

Hi John,

This was a problem with the "Canada Stockwatch (3M Historical)" server. This has been updated in the current quote module. Updates to the 11.x version are no longer made available. To get quote and transaction module updates you need to be using one of the last 2 major versions, which are currently 12.x and the 2014 series.

You can still download your version from here:

https://www.fundmanagersoftware.com/download_old_fm.php

and that will come with all of the DLLs at the time that version was released.
Thanks,
Mark

I downloaded the file you referenced, but when it came to install it, it balked after it had established the folders. The file it could not install was the "readme.txt". I did not uninstall the old version, intending to overwrite existing files but perhaps this is what caused the problem. But before I do the uninstall, I would like your opinion as to whether to install or not.

Hi John,

I wouldn't uninstall the old version. You should be able to just install over the old version. If you're getting an error, check that you are running the install as as admin, and none of the files in the folder where you have Fund Manager installed are marked as read-only. The installation program needs to be able to write the files in whatever folder you choose to install to.

Installing the last 11.x version will not fix the problem with crashing when retrieving from Canada StockWatch (Historical). You will need to either not retrieve from that server, or upgrade Fund Manager to the 2014 version, so you can get the quote module updates.
Thanks,
Mark
