Remaining Basis after partial Sale

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby steve at SFI » Wed Feb 11, 2015 3:30 pm

I changed a stock sale from FIFO basis to specific lot after the fact. The gain or loss report, run for specific lot, uses the correct basis but the stock record still shows the remaining basis as wrong. It has not been updated. How does the remaining basis get updated for a change to specific lot stock sale?

Hi steve at SFI,

I didn't quite follow... How did you change it in Fund Manager? Where are you viewing an incorrect cost basis?

In most places/reports you choose whether to use a specific accounting method (FIFO, Spec. Lot, AVG), or the "Assigned" accounting method, which is the one assigned to each investment under "Investment Properties... / Other / Accounting Method". If you run a report, and ask for a certain field, like tax cost basis using the assigned accounting method, it will use that same accounting method for the full history of that investment in that calculation.
Thanks,
Mark
