TXIN Repeats Are Not Filtered out in generic import.

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby bonafideduck » Wed Aug 12, 2015 6:51 pm

I have the below file. When I import transactions manually in a new portfolio with settings, "PORT,SYMB,YY/MM/DD,TRAN,ANUM,BNUM,CNUM,MEMO" multiple times, the TXIN transactions get repeated while the BUY and SELL don't. This is preventing me from periodically appending my transactions to a single file and importing it repeatedly. Although there are workarounds, I'd like to know if this is a bug or a feature.

My sample import file:

acct1,XYZ,1901/01/01,TXIN,1.0,100,0.0,line 1
acct1,XYZ,2014/06/02,SELL,1.0,50,0.0,line 2
acct1,XYZ,2014/06/03,BUY,1.0,50,0.0,line 2
acct1,ABC,2014/01/01,TXIN,1.0,100,0.0,line 1
acct1,ABC,2014/06/02,SELL,1.0,50,0.0,line 2
acct1,ABC,2014/06/03,BUY,1.0,50,0.0,line 2

Four imports gave this as a result after export:

acct1,CASH,2014/6/2,BUY,1.000000,50.000000,0.00
acct1,CASH,2014/6/2,BUY,1.000000,50.000000,0.00
acct1,CASH,2014/6/3,SELL,1.000000,50.000000,-0.00
acct1,CASH,2014/6/3,SELL,1.000000,50.000000,-0.00
acct1,XYZ,1901/1/1,TXIN,1.000000,100.000000,1/1/1901:0.000000:0.000000
acct1,XYZ,1901/1/1,TXIN,1.000000,100.000000,1/1/1901:0.000000:0.000000
acct1,XYZ,1901/1/1,TXIN,1.000000,100.000000,1/1/1901:0.000000:0.000000
acct1,XYZ,1901/1/1,TXIN,1.000000,100.000000,1/1/1901:0.000000:0.000000
acct1,XYZ,2014/6/2,SELL,1.000000,50.000000,-0.00
acct1,XYZ,2014/6/3,BUY,1.000000,50.000000,0.00
acct1,ABC,2014/1/1,TXIN,1.000000,100.000000,1/1/2014:0.000000:0.000000
acct1,ABC,2014/1/1,TXIN,1.000000,100.000000,1/1/2014:0.000000:0.000000
acct1,ABC,2014/1/1,TXIN,1.000000,100.000000,1/1/2014:0.000000:0.000000
acct1,ABC,2014/1/1,TXIN,1.000000,100.000000,1/1/2014:0.000000:0.000000
acct1,ABC,2014/6/2,SELL,1.000000,50.000000,-0.00
acct1,ABC,2014/6/3,BUY,1.000000,50.000000,0.00

Thanks for your considerations.

Hi bonafideduck,

This sounds like a bug, the TXIN should not import again if you have on the option to skip transactions already in Fund Manager. Unfortunately, I will be out of the office for the next couple of days, but I will look at this when I return, and post my findings back here at that time. I apologize for the delay...
Thanks,
Mark

Hi bonafideduck,

I can confirm this is a bug. We will have it fixed for the next release. Any Transfer In type of transaction is not skipped with the "Generic" import, even if it is already in your Fund Manager investment. If this is an issue for you, please send us an email, and we can provide a patch you can use until the next official release.
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the prompt response. I can always filter out the TXIN. I wanted to be sure I understood how things worked. Will the update be a free minor version update? Would I download it with "Help", "Fund Manager on the Web", "Check for Updates"?

I'm running Fund Manager with WINE on an Apple Macintosh. Sometimes it doesn't act exactly right (for example, the delete key causes the program to quit), so I'm glad it is a bug in your software that is easily fixed.

Hi Mark,

Yes, it will be included in any future release. It is possible there won't be another minor update for the 2014 series though. This bug doesn't quite rise to the level of justifying a release on its own. We are getting a 2016 version ready for beta release, and when that happens it will be included in there. I can also email you a patch for the 2014 version if this is important to you. It requires an update to the main program, so it would require a download/install of a new version. It would not be available through the "Help" menu command, as that only can update the quote/transaction modules.
Thanks,
Mark

I have verified that the Beta 1 version of 2016 fixes the import issue.

Will there be an upgrade cost to go to the 2016 version?

Hi bonafideduck,

Thanks for the confirmation of the fix. Yes, there will be an upgrade fee to use the Fund Manager 2016 versions.
