Spin-off wizard when child security already exists

Mark,

Two quick questions on the spin-off wizard:

1) I noticed the spin-off wizard asks about the new investment. What if I already have the security built, and do not want to build it twice?

2) And, if I did build it a 2nd time, how do I complete remove/delete the duplicate in FM?

Hi flight,

If you want to use the spin-off wizard, the only option is to spin-off to a new child investment. You could afterwards move those transactions created in the new child investment into an existing investment. For instructions on how to merge two investments into one, see the Merging Investments in Fund Manager Tutorial.

Got it. And to delete the duplicate, do I just delete the .dat file?

You just need to "close" it, which removes it from Fund Manager. You could also delete the *.dat file to clean up your files, but make sure you know which one to delete. It isn't absolutely necessary to delete the *.dat file, other than to save space and clean up your files.
