Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager
by pauldon » Mon Jan 09, 2017 11:47 am
Hi, I have successfully used FM for downloading Fund prices for many years. I find Morningstar has a good selection of funds registered. However, it doesn't have any of the Australian funds I use. I see that there are a number of country specific Morningstar servers in the download list. How can I connect to Morningstar AU to download prices from their server? Thanks for suggestions Paul

Hi Paul,
We can consider adding support for it. Have you checked to see if your funds are available on Yahoo? If you have a fund that is on Morningstar AU, but not on Yahoo or Morningstar, can you give me an example fund name and symbol?

Hi Mark, Thanks for your rapid reaction. I tried to find them on most other servers - yahoo, google, wall street etc.. The Aus Funds I am interested in are using APIR references, rather than ISIN - I think this is what makes them unique to Australia and therefore specific to Morningstar AU. Some examples are: MMF1709AU or LEF0149AU = http://qa.morningstar.com.au/Funds/FundReport/6860All the other funds I check have ISIN codes so I guess that is why they can be found on more general sites. Hope that helps. Thanks for your interest to understand my problem and investigate possible solutions. Paul

Hi Paul,
That site seems to be non-functional, at least from here... The link you sent works, but I see no quote, and if I search for either of those symbols there is a DNS error. Are you able to view prices on this site? Can you send me a direct link to a quote?

Hi Mark, I'm assuming because they have html prices embeded in the page (righthand side under "Quick stats") that they would also have a quote server like the other Morningstar Sites. (eg. http://www.morningstar.co.uk/uk/funds/s ... F0000044CN) For example on http://www.morningstar.com.au/Funds/FundReport/6860 the quote is Quick Stats as at 09 Jan 2017 APIR Code LEF0149AU Legal Type Superannuation Fund Status Open Category Equity Australia Real Estate Entry Price $ 2.1245 Exit Price $ 2.1175 Hope that helps Paul

Hi Paul,
Thanks, that does help. Their site also seems to be working properly today. Normally funds only have 1 price for a date. Do you know why they have an entry and an exit price? Which one would you like to see retrieved as the "Close" price in Fund Manager?

Hi Mark, That's a good question. As an existing investor in the fund then I want the Exit Price as it is what will be my selling price. I guess, most of the time people monitoring funds on a weekly basis will be looking at their exit strategy rather than their entry strategy Hope that helps. Best regards, Paul

Hi Paul,
We've just released an update to the quote module (510) to add this server. Please use "Help / Fund Manager on the Web / Check for Updates..." to obtain this release. You should then see the new quote server to use. You will need to record that ID for your symbol. In the example above it would be 6860.

Any chance that the Swedish Morningstar SE can be added to the quote module? I've tested all the other servers - yahoo, google, etc. - but can't find swedish funds. For example ISIN: SE0000621393 can be found at http://www.morningstar.se/Funds/Quicktake/Overview.aspx?perfid=0P00000FYOI guess that 0P00000FYO is the fund-ID used by Morningstar.

Thanks, that would be excellent! (and eliminate a lot of my post-Bloomberg issues)

Hi mahe79,
We've added this server. Use "Help / Fund Manager on the Web / Check for Updates..." from within Fund Manager to get quote module 512. See the new "Morningstar SE - Funds" server. Record the value of "perfid" as your symbol in Fund Manager.
