backup in xp and restore to vista

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Postby bagmore » Sun Nov 23, 2008 11:56 am

With FM 9.3 I backup on my XP machine and attempt to restore to my Vista machine. I am unable to restore unless I do the restore at an administrator in Vista.

After the restore (done as an administrator) has been completed, if I do not use FM as an administrator a lot of my data is missing. The missing data is, I believe, held in the registry. It is things like "recently opened portfolios" --- under the file menu or "asset type" settings or "investment goal" settings.

Does FM 9.3 only work in Vista when using it as an administrator or is there something wrong?

thanks

Hi bagmore,

Fund Manager will run fine under Vista, without running as Admin. There is a limitation in doing restores though. If you are running as a regular (non-admin) user, you cannot restore registry keys under Vista. There is a bug in version 9.3 that will cause the restore to fail if you try to do this. This will be fixed in 9.4. For now, you can just either do the restore as the same user, but with Admin permissions, or do the restore, and do not select the registry options to restore. In either case, make sure you do not restore data files anywhere underneath the "Program Files" folder, as regular users cannot write to this location.
Thanks,
Mark
