FM v. 9 Questions

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Postby DavidJ » Fri Jan 09, 2009 2:23 am

Good morning!

I am trying out v. 9 after having used v. 7 for a while, so I may have some questions which seem silly.

1. How many fmb files does FM store in its backup folder before deleting old ones? Is there anyplace where the user can adjust this?

2. At the moment, what I've got in FM's backup folder is:

all_1.fmb
All_2.fmb
all_3.fmb
All_4.fmb
all_5.fmb
all_6.fmb
All_7.fmb

As you can see, the filename is sometimes in uppercase and sometimes in lowercase. This may or may not create problems with my remote backup scheme. Can you explain this, or tell me how to fix it?

Thanks.
David.

Hi David,

You can control the number of revisions by going under "Options / General Preferences... / Data" and setting "Save up to X Revisions".

I'm guessing the reason for the upper versus lower case names is maybe the way you are opening your portfolio? If you open it the same way each time, it should always be the same. For example, if you select it from "File / Open" versus double clicking on the .mm4 file directly? I'm not sure, but if you open it the same each time, that should make it the same case each time. Filenames are not case sensitive in Windows, so I don't believe this should cause a problem in your backup software.
Thanks,
Mark
