Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager
by Paul440 » Mon Mar 23, 2009 5:37 pm
Hi, have been using FM for about 7 years. great program!!
Just yesterday I cant retrieve prices from the ASX anymore. No apparent changes on my system. I have another Portfolio using Yahoo ASX & NZX that gives me NZ prices OK so its not an internet problem as such.
Im using FM 9.5, v404 and v132 of the two DLL. (These are both listed as the latest). The ASX is quoted as working according to FM program.
When I try to retrive prices it zero bytes are received and after about 1 sec it pops up a mesage saying "Could not update any investments".
Has anyone else started having this problem as of a few days ago ???
(PS: I dont want to use the Yahoo server for ASX since until lunch time each day it only reports prices from yesterday - some kind of time zone weirdness).

Hi Paul440,
Yes, the ASX quote server has changed their format. We are aware of the problem, and have updated the online status for this server. We are working on an update. Please check back using "Help / FM on the Web / Check for Updates...".

Hi Paul,
The update to fix the ASX server is now available. Choose "Help / FM on the Web / Check for Updates..." from within Fund Manager.

Mark,
I am a long term user currently using Ver 7.7
I am also having the problerm of the Australian ASX change - but it
appears that there is no fix for Version 7.
Is Ver 7 no longer being supported?
Regards,
Don

Hi Don,
That is correct, we are no longer providing quote or transaction module updates for 7.x versions. We provide these free maintenance updates to only the last 2 major series currently available, so this is 8.x and 9.x versions currently. In order to keep getting the free maintenance updates, you must be using one of these 2 series of versions.

Since Monday this week I have not been able to update prices from Yahoo, Yahoo Historical and Yahoo Italy - I am using FM 7.5; the 'Internet quote / pager server status' window is empty. Do I have to upgrade to version 9 ? When is version 10 planned for ?

Hi slucheri,
We only provide quote/transaction module updates for the 2 most recent version series (8.x and 9.x currently). We aren't providing updates or status on earlier versions.
I have not heard of problems with these servers using 7.x versions though. How are you verifying your prices aren't updating? Did you check all the points listed here:
http://www.fundmanagersoftware.com/faq_ ... ailure.php
There is no scheduled date for v10 release yet, it is still a ways off.

Hi, I am having a bit of trouble with prices from the ASX too. When I click Edit - Internet Retrieve - Prices, I get a window that comes up asking for the date range that I want to download prices for. So as an example, I clicked on 1 July - 24 July. I own some US stocks as well as Australian stocks and found that for all the US stocks, all the prices were correctly downloaded for the month. However for the ASX stocks, it just downloaded the prices for the 24th and not any other days of the month.
Any suggetsions as to what I am doing wrong?

Hi Paul70,
What quote server are you using? It sounds like you are using one of the historical quote servers. They may not have historical quotes for ASX. You can check with your web browser by visiting the quote server you are using. See:

Hi Mark
Thanks for the response.
I was using the "Australian Stock Exchange" for both the Quote Server and Historical Quote Server. After your message, I changed the historical quote server to yahoo and changed the investment symbol to have .AX as the suffix. No sucess. I then tried all the possible combinations of using the Australian Stock Exchange and Yahoo for both the quote server and historical quote server. I still can't get it to download any historical quotes.
Applying this logic, does it mean that I physically need to log in each day to download the prices? If I missed a few days and then went to download the prices, does it mean I will only get the prices for the actual day I download? Or have I totally stuffed up and am doing something wrong?

OK I just worked out what I was doing wrong. There is another quote server at the very bottom of the list called Yahoo(Historical). By choosing this as the quote server and historical quote server for all the Aussie stocks, as well as adding .AX suffix for all thesymbols, it has now correctly downloaded the historical prices.
