Importing OFX transactions from Paychex

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby shanaw » Mon Jun 19, 2023 2:23 pm

Recently Paychex changed the location on their site where they download transactions.
Everything looks OK in the file but no matter what options I choose in Fund Manager no transactions are visible. It is the same result you get when you are downloading duplicate transactions and have specified no-duplicates. This is not the case here.
The only surprising change from 'old' transactions to 'new' transactions is the change in account number. To accommodate this I changed the account numbers for the portfolio and the individual securities, no change.

I will upload an Excel file to show line by line comparisons of a portion of the OFX document for one security in particular. I am not sure what to check for next.

Hi shanaw,

If you'd like me to take a look at your OFX file, send it to me via email or PM.
Thanks,
Mark

Did you look at the spreadsheet with the extracts of the OFX files?
Out of an abundance of caution I changed all references to account number and didn't want to do that to the entire file. I could do a find and replace if absolutely necessary.

Yes, I did look at it, but it wasn't clear why your new OFX file wouldn't import from that spreadsheet. If I have a test case, I can import it here, and see if/why there is a problem. In the OFX file there is usually only one place where there is an account number (in the INVACCTFROM section). You can edit your OFX file in a text editor, before sending it to me.

Also, have you looked in the OFX file to see if it contains any transactions?
Thanks,
Mark

Yes, several transactions.

I assume you can just change the extension of the uploaded file back to OFX.

Thanks. One problem is the "datetime" structures aren't formatted per the OFX spec. For example, if you look in your file at the DTTRADE fields, they are formatted like:

- DTTRADE (2023-06-05)

It is supplying the DTTRADE as: YYYY-MM-DD. DTTRADE is defined per the spec to be a "datetime" value, formatted like:

YYYYMMDDHHMMSS
Thanks,
Mark

The dashes (-) appear to be the problem!
I deleted them for the first five or six transactions and voila, they are now visible.

Thanks for the help! I saw that the format of the trade dates had the dashes but wasn't sure it wasn't an optional format.
