Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager
by gvaricool » Thu Apr 11, 2024 5:59 am
App retrieves prices but does not update files past the date of 3/15/2024. This applies to all investments, individual retrieve and bulk. Seems it behaved like this when I last updated prices on 3/21/2024, I just didn't notice. I can manually enter new prices but retrieved data is not updated. Although I have not upgraded to 2024 the app should not stop updating prices! Why would it not update data past this date?

Hello gvaricool, You have a quite old quote module, and there is a more recent one available for FM 2020 and 2022: How to manually update quote/transaction modules for FM 2020 and FM 2022: Quote module: https://www.fundmanagersoftware.com/pro ... eng14x.dll Transaction module: https://www.fundmanagersoftware.com/pro ... anretr.dll Download each DLL, go to the properties, and "Un-block" them, and then put them in the same folder with your current exe, which is probably: C:\Program Files (x86)\Fund Manager Start the program and verify under "Help / About..." the quote module shows version 592 and the transaction module shows version 261.

Hello whar do you mean with "go to the properties, and "Un-block" them" KR Klaus Mark wrote:Hello gvaricool, You have a quite old quote module, and there is a more recent one available for FM 2020 and 2022: How to manually update quote/transaction modules for FM 2020 and FM 2022: Quote module: https://www.fundmanagersoftware.com/pro ... eng14x.dll Transaction module: https://www.fundmanagersoftware.com/pro ... anretr.dll Download each DLL, go to the properties, and "Un-block" them, and then put them in the same folder with your current exe, which is probably: C:\Program Files (x86)\Fund Manager Start the program and verify under "Help / About..." the quote module shows version 592 and the transaction module shows version 261.

Actually I did not have to perform this "Unblock" step. But I had to have Administrator role in order to copy the DLL's into FM directory

You can also just upgrade to FM 2024, and you will receive the latest updates in an automated fashion when you choose "Help / FM on the Web / Check for Updates...". There have been changes to the Yahoo servers, and we are only providing new updates to the FM 2024 versions. The current quote module as of today is 600. You can find what quote module you're using by looking under "Help / About...".

I upgraded Quote module to 592 and Tx module to 261 and this fixed my problem for a while. Now it acts again like in the beginning of this case, it retrieves ALL prices for the selected period but only updates my database up to a certain date. Now it only updates prices until May 10! According to the detailed log, Fund manager retrieves prices May 10 to May 16 but only updates May 10. For all retrievals it gets all data but does not update locally past May 10.
QUESTION: If it retrieves ALL prices successfully, why would it only update locally a subset of what was retrieved?
Here is excerpt from the log, period May 10 - May 16: *** Returned Data: Date,Open,High,Low,Close,Adj Close,Volume 2024-05-10,1895.000000,1900.000000,1840.000000,1870.000000,1870.000000,122143 2024-05-13,1850.000000,1855.000000,1835.000000,1840.000000,1840.000000,41860 2024-05-14,1860.000000,1860.000000,1840.000000,1850.000000,1850.000000,89082 2024-05-15,1845.000000,1855.000000,1840.000000,1850.000000,1850.000000,79208 2024-05-16,1847.500000,1865.000000,1847.500000,1865.000000,1865.000000,141466*** End of Returned Data: Updating: "ALVO.IC" 1 -> ALVO.IC: 1870.000000 on 5/10/2024 Updated 1 Price
Is the only option to fix this to upgrade to 2024 for $59?

Hi gvaricool, I don't know why it isn't updating exactly with QM 592, but we have had to make changes multiple times to keep Yahoo working. The current QM version is 604, and I just tested retrieving from Yahoo (Historical) for this same date range, and all prices updated. Yes, to continue receiving quote module updates, you'll need to be on the current version, which is FM 2024, and the Personal upgrade fee is $59. For more on this policy, please read this.

Prices are retrieved correctly from Yahoo according to logs, that is not the problem. Problem is that retrieved prices are not updated locally in my database. Nothing should have changed in the logic of updating FM database. And the strange thing is that it stops at a certain date in time. Which leads me to the question: Is your software programmed (hard coded) in such a way that users are forced to buy upgrade every two years?

No it is not. We only stop providing updates for free. To keep getting the quote module updates you need to be on the current version.

gvaricool, in a separate thread I reported that as of Monday the 13th prices from yahoo were not updating for me. They still don't. I later realized that it would update any prices to May 10 from yahoo but not since. I am using module 592 and FM2022. I don't understand it but it seems to be a yahoo problem for me because several that I retrieve elsewhere which are the more important ones for me still retrieve fine.
As an example of the problem I could retrieve 2 years of historical prices for Devon energy, DVN, but it only updates through May 10.
