Move Installation to New Computer

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Hi Mark, I'm looking at moving my FM to a new computer. Thinking I should start with a backup, get a message saying that Portfolio and data files are not in the same location.

Bit of History, when I started with FM had everything installed on my local PC. Few years ago I moved to the cloud(DropBox).

I still prefer to operate with the cloud.

Any articles or suggestions how I should proceed with the move?

Hi gmow,

Yes. We have some instructions for moving FM to a new computer here:

https://www.fundmanagersoftware.com/newcomputer.html

You'll want to use the "Set Data Location..." command before creating a backup to get all your data files into a single folder. You can pick the folder where your data is already stored now, and it will just copy any files that aren't already in that folder, into that folder.
Thanks,
Mark

It appears that the old install was running on the Dropbox.

Is it possible moving forward to install the app locally but have the data in the cloud.

Same procedure to restore?

Yes, it is fine to have the app installed locally and have your data stored in the cloud. In this case, you probably would prefer to turn off the portable/cloud mode (Options / General Preferences... / Data / Portable/Cloud Mode). Yes, the procedure to restore would be the same. When you install the program however, you'd install it to a local location, like C:\Program Files (x86)\Fund Manager. That is where the program would be, and the data is separate, on your cloud drive.
Thanks,
Mark
