Price retrieval of 2 investments with same symbol

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby Djobydjoba » Fri Aug 15, 2025 2:01 pm

Hi Mark,

Two different investments (two investment files), but with the same symbol and the same quote server. The investments are in two different sub-portfolios of a parent portfolio. If I retrieve prices from the parent, are the prices retrieved only once for the 2 investments, or a separate retrieval is done for each?

Thanks.

Hi Djobydjoba,

In this case it would only be retrieved once and both investments would be updated with the same price.
Thanks,
Mark

Thanks for the confirmation.

If such a portfolio tree:

MY_PORTFOLIO
- AccountA
-- Apple
-- Visa
-All Stocks
-- Apple (*)
- Tech sector
-- Apple (*)

(*) Apple in 'All Stocks' and 'Tech sector' are an exact copy (same investment file). The Apple stock in the 'AccountA' portfolio is a different investment file.

A price retrieval is done for the entire portfolio
In the Price Retrieve logs, if price retrieval fails for Apple, we can see a line like:

Unable to update: "AAPL" (Apple in 2 Portfolios: MY_PORTFOLIO/All Stocks, MY_PORTFOLIO/Tech sector)

That is, the logs don't mention all the sub-portfolios where "AAPL" stock is. No mention of the Apple stock in the 'AccountA'.

Do you confirm? Shouldn't the logs mention all the investments (and so paths) where the retrieval failed?
