Very discouraged with this software

Comments, critical feedback, praise, or suggestions for new features.

Each day I encounter a new problem. I spent 8 hours yesterday reconciling principal balances and cost basis information for mortgage backed securities. I checked all my work last night and was happy. I opened and closed the software and all the information appeared to be properly saved and I expected to move on this morning. When I opened the software this morning all of yesterday's work was gone and the portfolio is refilled with old information that I had previously deleted.

I am very discouraged.

Hi SLO GUY,

Sorry to hear about the troubles. Are you maybe using some syncing software, or could you data have somehow been overwritten with an older copy overnight? What if you look at the modification time/date of your investment and portfolio files? Do they match the last time you made changes? What you're describing is not normal, and shouldn't happen. If you can't figure it out, give me a call, and I can try to take a look for you.
Thanks,
Mark

Thanks, Mark

I know your time is very valuable. Your time and patience while on the phone turned this disaster into a success. The use of "GoMeetNow.com" was very effective. I learned a great deal during our session.

The principal lessons that I learned include:
1. Be very careful not to have more than one copy of FM open at a time. I apparently had a second copy with older data opened while working with new data on the first opened copy. I then closed my copy with the new data first and the copy with the old data second, thus making the older data the data that would be opned next time I opened FM.
2. I also had reduced the number of automatic backup revisions kept on file. As I struggled to figure out what the problem was this morning, I repeatedly opened and closed FM thereby cycling the good data out of the Auto backup files.
3. The good news was that my lack of trust had lead me to creating a CD backup for the data which, under Mark's guidance, we were able to restore and recapture all the work done the previous day.

Thanks again for your help this morning. I am no longer discouraged.
