default cash account

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Postby Fingergold2 » Mon May 31, 2010 6:24 pm

Two problems: (1) When making a distribution entry, I was asked if I wanted the amount to be transferred to the cash account. I said yes, but the cash balance did not change at all. Yet in the registry the distribution under cash is properly displayed. What to do??
(2) While flailing about trying to solve the problem, my cash account suddenly became "closed". How do I "unclose it" or do I have to create a new one and copy everything from the old one, etc.

Hi Fingergold2,

I see from your post in the other forum that #2 is solved. The answer is you just open it again if you closed it by mistake. "File / Open Investment(s)..." is used here.

For #1, were you recording a distribution in the cash account itself? Normally you are not prompted to have the money transferred to the cash account. Can you tell me what menu commands you were using, and what exactly the message said?

A distribution in the cash account itself does not change the amount of cash you have. Only buys, sells, or reinvested distributions would do this. A distribution is paid out, so doesn't increase the shares you own, unless you reinvest it.
Thanks,
Mark

Thanks, Mark. I really don't understand what happened to cause the problem but I can say that this morning everything works fine and is back to normal. Last night, however, I was at wit's end! Sorry for the bother, but I always learn something by asking and I hope other can at least put up with it!

Hi Fingergold2,

Glad it is back working. Asking questions is no bother, I'm sure others can benefit from them as well.
Thanks,
Mark
