Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager
by dam4kzs » Wed Aug 25, 2010 11:05 am
The error is in the QFX file from the broker, I looked at the the "ofxmemtrandump.txt" file & the transaction Type & Memo are wrong.
Is there a way to correct those entries without right clicking the security>Investment Data>Transfer In> Enter the correct data in the dialogs > delete the wrong Buy or Sell? I have very many (100s) of them to correct. Doing it manually would be a real chore to say the least.
Thanks Guys,
Drew

Hi Drew,
You could use the generic transaction export, correct the data you want changed, and re-import it. See "File / Import (Export) / Transactions / Generic...". Press the "Help..." button in this dialog for instructions and samples.

Mark,
Generic Export is missing the IDESC, CUSIPS, & some of the CNUMs, & enters the symbols for a second time in NAME... in its txt/csv file. The cusips are in the portfolio editor. Here's the string I used:
SYMB,CUSIP,IDESC,NAME,TRAN,MM/DD/YY,ANUM,BNUM,CNUM,ITYPE,ASSET,GOAL,MEMO
Didn't go over it with a fine tooth comb, but the other stuff seems to have exported ok.

Hi Drew,
They seem to work okay when I test them. I used your format string, and verified all fields were exported, including the investment description and CUSIP. These are investment properties, so double check them by right mouse clicking on your investment, and going to "Properties...". On the "General" tab you'll see a Description and CUSIP field. Make sure these are filled in, if you want them to export.

Thanks, ran it again & looks like it worked fine. Must've got something wrong along the way.
IDESC doesn't show... what is it used for? Can you give me an example?
What are the differences between:
IDESC ~ NAME?
ITYPE ~ ASSET?
How should they be used?
Can you give examples?
Sorry to be wearing you out today, but I've got to make a decision soon on which software I'll commit to using going forward.
Thanks Again Mark!

Hi Drew,
Glad it worked this time.
All of these are investment properties:
IDESC: Description
NAME: Name
ITYPE: Investment type (Stock, Fund, Bond, Cash, etc)
ASSET: Asset type (Large cap, etc. You define the names)
All of these can be viewed in the 'Investment Properties...' dialog. The first 3 are on the "General" tab, and the last one is on the "Asset Type" tab.
