Hi Mark,

I want to report strange behavior when attempting to change a General Preference.

The message I get is:

make_me_default_handler(1) failed with error 2: The system cannot find the file specified.

After clicking OK, I get a second message:

Please start Fund Manager as as [sic] administrator in order to change file associations.

Here's how I got the message:

Click Options, General Preferences...
Click on Other tab, then click on the drop-down box: Initial "Data Type" in Data Register.
Select something from drop-down (I selected "Prices"), then click OK. Messages above will appear. Interestingly, whatever I've selected sticks (if I go through the steps again, my new selection is now visible), despite the error messages.

Hi aviator,

I'm aware of this issue. It has to do with the file types to associate with Fund Manager options. Setting those options in Windows Vista or later requires the program to be started as an administrator. Even if you are an administrator, normal programs aren't started with that permission level, unless you right mouse click on the shortcut, and choose to "Run As Administrator". Unfortunately, the right solution here is to move the functionality into a new executable, which must start as admin, so you will get a security prompt when running it, but then it will have the necessary permission levels to make the association changes.
Thanks,
Mark
