No Load Mutual Funds Purchased Thru a Broker

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby Ivan » Fri Nov 26, 2010 9:53 pm

Hi Mark,

What is the best way to handle No Load Mutual Funds purchased through a broker? If I categorize the investment as a No Load Fund, there is no place to enter the broker's commission.

Thanks,
Ivan

Hi Ivan,

You can classify it as a no-load mutual fund, and then edit the properties. Under "Investment Properties... / Other" you can set the transaction entry preferences to use commission fees.
Thanks,
Mark

Thanks Mark, that worked perfectly.

Now I have a different, but related question. I transferred funds between brokers, money market to money market, just using sell and buy transactions. The transfer-from broker charged me a fee, but the money market fund does not have a commission field to enter the fee. Can I temporarily enable the commission field for just one transaction? I realize I could leave it enabled, so this is just a neatness question.

Hi Ivan,

Yes, that is perfectly fine. You can set it to commission, record your commission, and change it back. The commission is still recorded. The transaction entry preference does not change any recorded data.
Thanks,
Mark
