Hi k_kirk,
Are you running Vista? I think you've found a bug with this feature under Vista when you have User Account Control (UAC) turned on. We'll have to release an update to fix this. I expect this to happen soon, hopefully today.
Hi k_kirk,
Version 8.10 is now available, and has fixed this issue. Please let me know if you still have problems once you've installed 8.10.
Hi Mark,
First off thanks for an amazing turnaround time and customer service. This is wonderful. I did install the update and the particular message I was getting went away. You are right I am on Vista so well spotted. I am getting a new error now though in relation to using my gmail account as an smtp sender. I am able to use gmail access through POP or IMAP on my PocketPC so I know gmail does allow sending messages through it provided user security credentials are provided. The error is : Sender Rejected : 530 5.7.0 Must issue a STARTTLS command first s54sm1206445rnb.14 PS. Any chance to allow us to post attachments in the forum? Its so much easier to post small screen print files rather than typing up errors etc. Just a thought. Thanks & Regards, KK
Hi k_kirk,
Great, glad that fixed the original problem. Gmail requires "SSL" SMTP, which Fund Manager doesn't support. You won't be able to use gmail's mail server with the email alert feature. Thanks for the feedback on attaching images. This would be a nice feature, but I don't believe it is available in the forum software we're currently using. I can give it some thought though.
Hi Mark,
Thanks for identifying the problem. Its a feature rather than a bug so the question is whether FM might support SSL in future or whether I should look for a mail host to route smtp through. As you know thanks to the spammers its getting harder and harder to find open mail forwarders so ability to run over Gmail would be great for people like me who simply don't have a mail account anywhere else. Good luck with the forum s/w. Most of them support attachments these days so it might be an option to switch on etc. Regards & Thanks, KK
Hi k_kirk,
SSL SMTP support is something we may add, but it isn't in the real near future. There are many 3rd party SMTP services you can rent access to if you don't get one with your ISP. For example, you can check out www.dnsmadeeasy.com. Their SMTP service is quite reasonable, like only $15/year.
