Portfolio question

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

I'm a new user and like the program but am terribly confused with the portfolio editor. I was thinking this should show all 4 of my portfolios but it only shows 2. When I open one of the other two portfolios, then the other two show up but the first two disappear. IN both cases, the two portfolios displayed show up as sub portfolios of the Master Portfolio. ANy idea what I am doing wrong?
Thanks
Greg

Hi Greg,

I can understand this confusion. There is a difference between a portfolio file (*.mm4) that you open with the "File / Open Portfolio..." command and sub-portfolios. A single portfolio file can contain an unlimited number of sub-portfolios. Typically you want to have just one portfolio file with all your sub-portfolios in there. It sounds like right now you have 2 portfolio files, each with 2 sub-portfolios. You can combine these using copy/paste. Open up your first portfolio file, and select the sub-portfolios in the portfolio editor. Use "Edit / Copy". Open up the 2nd portfolio file, and in the Portfolio Editor again, use "Edit / Paste" to paste the previously selected sub-portfolios into this portfolio file. If you'd like more specific instructions on how to do this, you can watch this tutorial which does exactly what I'm describing here:

Thanks for the prompt reply.
I've copy and pasted so that all four show up under one master portfolio in the portfolio editor but I still have the second master portfolio. Can I/Should I delete it? if so, how?

Hi hoop,

It is not necessary to delete, you can just not use it. If you want to delete that portfolio file (*.mm4) you have to do it in Windows Explorer, and go delete it off your hard drive. You can only "close" in Fund Manager, you can't actually delete your files from within Fund Manager.
Thanks,
Mark
