Generic Price Import and multiple spaces in the symbol

Hi Mark,

I am running into issues trying to import option prices from a CSV. I suspect the issue may lie in the number of spaces in the SYMB.

Here's a sample for SYMB,ED,NAV

AAO 100522C00041000,20100322,1.4500

The symbol is an EXACT match of how it is recorded in FM, but I get "Couldn't update any investments."

I have attached a short .csv to see if you may be able to shed some light here.

Hi Brad,

Unless you use the TAB keyword, all adjacent whitespace in both the format string and importing line are treated as a single space character. Your symbol in the importing line has 3 adjacent spaces, so this is getting compressed to a single space. If you edit your FM investment so the symbol only has 1 space, this should fix the problem.

Is there a way I could edit the import to fit the FM investment? This would be much less time consuming.

Hi Brad,

You could use the import option "Specify Symbol" and change your format string to:

XX,ED,NAV

In the Specify Symbol edit box you can enter the symbol, with the 3 spaces, and it will match on the investments with the 3 space symbol.

This is only an option if all prices in your file are for the same symbol, which it looked like was the case in your example. Unfortunately, there is no way to import a symbol from the file with the SYMB key if it has multiple adjacent spaces. This would be something good for us to improve.
