Exclude cash from Portfolio Value reports

Questions on using, creating, or understanding data in Fund Manager reports.

Postby CeSinge » Mon Apr 23, 2012 11:33 am

I'm trying to exclude cash investments (correctly marked as type=cash) from Portfolio Value reports. The filter there only allows to include, not to exclude, as I understand (which would be cool to have, btw).
Some other settings seem related, but work on graphs, not reports. Is there a way to exclude cash (and currency exchange investments) form portfolio value reports?
I'm discovering everyday new tricks of this wonderful app, so possibly I overlook sth.
Tnx,
CeSinge

Hi CeSinge,

Sorry, there is no filter type option to do this. It is something we're looking at adding into a future update. To do this now you would need to either temporarily move your cash type investments out of the sub-portfolio, or create a duplicate sub-portfolio that only contains your non-cash investments.
Thanks,
Mark

I second the need for the ability to exclude.

Mark, thank you.
For those interested, here's what I did:
I initially had sub-portfolios named bank-a, bank-b etc. They each contained a cash ''investment' called bank-a-cash, bank-b-cash.

I created the following structure:
Code: Select all
My_Investments (top level)
|- Cash
|- Currencies
|- Investments
   |-- Bank-a
   |-- Bank-b

I then moved all the cash accounts from the bank-n folders and grouped them in the Cash folder. PFM apparently allows to have the cash 'investment' in another folder.
Benefit: I can now create reports on the investements only 'Investments' folders; or on everything. The cash is now neatly grouped together. Minor disadvantage is that I do not see the cash while in an account.

Still - I am stubborn  - a simple NOT check mark in the filter dialog of the report is probably not that hard to code. A more extensive filtering capability would be cool (surely in the pro versions).

Hi CeSinge and stevetone,

Thanks for the feedback. An improved filter would be a nice improvement.
Thanks,
Mark
