Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager
by Don_G » Mon Sep 17, 2012 4:39 am
Hi All,
Just installed the Pro demo. Set up a main-level Portfolio (Vanguard), with no account information, and added a new sub-portfolio (one of our multiple accounts at Vanguard). When retrieving transactions for this sub-port account, the data for only a single fund in this account is being retrieved. There is transaction data for several additional funds in this account but it is not downloading to the program.
In the Retrieve Transactions dialog, All Dates is checked and all Import Options are checked. The login is good or the single fund would not have been downloaded. Yes, I've tried multiple times, but the additional funds will not download.
Thanks for suggestions,

Don,
Here are a couple of things that might help.
1) In your sub-portfolio, do you have your Vanguard account number entered? To do this, right click on the sub-portfolio, click properties, and see what's entered in the Account Number field.
2)Further, click on Transaction Retrieve Settings... (from within the Portfolio Properties box) and make sure that the Retrieve Transaction box is checked, that From: set to Vanguard Group, and that the User ID and Account number information is correct.
Hope this helps.

Yes to all. One fund's transactions were downloaded successfully.

One final question: When you do an Internet Retrieve (Edit/Internet Retrieve/Transactions...), is the box checked for "Create New Investment(s) as Needed:"? And if you click on the Options... next to that box, are the two boxes checked? And finally, is the date rate you've specified correct?

Yes, as stated in my initial message. And yes to the two options also.

Hi Don,
Maybe each of your funds is assigned to a different account number? Some mutual fund companies do this, but I haven't heard of Vanguard doing it before. Maybe your account is different for some reason.
Try using the New Portfolio Wizard (File / New Portfolio Wizard...) and leave the account number blank. Only enter your username/password for the transaction retrieve. When you leave the account number blank, Fund Manager will get a list of account numbers available for the username you've entered, and show you a list of all available account numbers. This will let you see how many account numbers there are, and maybe provide a clue as to why you're only getting one fund for a given account number.

Hi Mark,
Did exactly as you instructed. A list of all accounts that this user login is allowed to access was listed. The account I'm working with is listed only once. The other accounts will be placed in additional sub-portfolios.
Just logged in to Vanguard, looked at the transaction history for this account, and see that there are indeed transactions for three (3) different funds. One is a money market fund, which is the only one that Fund Manager retrieves. Currently, this is the only fund with shares in it. The other two do not have any shares currently.
Other ideas?
Thank you for your help.

Hi Don,
Please use the techniques we talked about in the other topic to look at your "xmldump.txt" log file again, after retrieving all dates for this account. Do you see any sign of the missing transactions?
Do you have this problem with any of your other Vanguard accounts?
