prompt for new investment format then crash

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Postby robbieh » Sat Oct 20, 2012 10:09 am

I was running 11.9 got the following error then updated to 12 beta but got the same error. Any suggestions....

I am prompted with a dialog that says "new investment file format". It asks to either convert (select yes) or no. I am then prompted a few more times for each investment file I have. After a few dialogs, fund manager crashes. Suggestions?

Hi robbieh,

I can understand the messages about converting to a new file format when using v12 for the first time. I assume you weren't getting the file conversion messages when using v11? So, what is the same error you received in both versions? Was it the error when Fund Manager crashed that was the same? How are you determining that FM is crashing? What exactly do you see?

If both versions are crashing when you open up your portfolio, then could you send us a copy of your data files, so we can try to reproduce the problem here? Even if your data is corrupt, Fund Manager should never crash. To get things back, you can try to restore from a backup. If you don't have your own backup, you can restore one of the automatic backups made by Fund Manager. To find these, use "Options / General Preferences... / Data" to see where your automatic backups are being stored. Once you find this location, use "File / Restore..." and browse to that folder, and restore the latest one. If you still get this error with the restored data, please email us the *.FMB backup file, so we can try to reproduce the problem. I'll send you an email, so you can reply to that with the attachment if needed.
Thanks,
Mark

To close the thread. It looks like my portfolio file had gotten corrupt. Restoring from backup worked perfectly. The corrupt file was causing FM to crash, but mark says that will be fixed in V12 beta 3.
