New User Manual Input Problems

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby KAL » Thu May 30, 2013 3:24 pm

Please forgive my ignorance but I am a brand new UK user and have started to manually input a sub portfolio fom data I currently hold on an Excel worksheet. I have entered 5 stocks so far wit the historic price and quantity and date of purchase whick seems to work OK with the correct overall value generated, but when I get the current prices the values are 100 times the correct figure! I am putting in £ and assume that its not a Pound pence problem as updating only looks at the quantity. I'd be grateful for any assistance as I have quite a few to enter as UK Brokers don't seem to offer easy import facilities and I assume I can't inportdirectly from Excel?

Hi KAL,

It probably is a pence/pound problem. Look at your investment(s) in the Data Register. In the Data Register set the data type to "Prices", so you can see all your recorded closing prices and shares owned. The market value is just the price times the shares.

You may want to use the Yahoo (UK & Ireland) quote server, instead of the Yahoo quote server. If you use Yahoo (UK & Ireland) and use a symbol with .L on the end, all prices are retrieved in pounds instead of pence. You can set your default quote server under "Options / Internet Settings...".
Thanks,
Mark

Thanks for your solution, it worked.
However I have hit a new problem. I have input a new Sub Portfolio of 10 items.
Ithen updated prices using Yahoo UK.
Of the 10, 4 updated correctly
4 indicated interpolated price and kept the initial price, presumably because Yahoo UK does not recognise them.
But the main problem is that 2 items, both ETF's have updated but in this case show at 1/100th of their actual value although the price seems to be correct! I have tried to update them by manually inputting at the current price but it has no affect on the value. (The initial input of these 2 showed the correct value)
What am I doing wrong?

Sorry to be a pain but have hit a further problem. I manually entered a new sub portfolio of 27 items, all stocks, and used the symbols as per Yahoo UK e.g. ARM Holdings PLC = ARM.L and I checked a sample to verify accuracy of symbols.
The initial input worked OK but when I tried to update the prices using Yahoo UK all 27 items had an asterisk indicating interpolated prices and the prices and values remained as per the original input purchase price?
Am I hitting these problems as a UK user because the lack of the direct broker link.
One of my Subs is TDWaterhouse Direct in the UK but they don’t seem to offer this facility.
This is becoming very time consuming. Any ideas or alternative solutions?

Mark please disregard my last post as I have just updated the 27 item sub portfolio and they have all updated correctly. Must have been a Yahoo blip!
However the previous post re the ETF’s I has not yet resolved

Hi KAL,

On the remaining ETF issue, verify the prices are updated by looking in the Data Register under the "Prices" data type. You can see both the shares owned and the market price in this dialog. Once both of those are correct, then the market value for those days will be correct, as the market value is just the shares owned times the market price.

You mentioned the market value was wrong. Where are you looking at this market value? You want to verify you are looking at it for the correct date, where you have updated the prices. The best place to see that all your shares/prices are correct is in the Data Register under the data type of "Prices".
Thanks,
Mark
