Set Data Location Dialog

This dialog is available from the File / File Operations / Set Data Location... menu command from within any window.

Use this dialog to specify where all your data files will be saved.  This can be useful if you have investments stored in multiple locations and want to consolidate everything into a single folder.

You do not have to choose a completely new folder, you can select an existing folder where you may already have many of your data files stored.  In this case, only investments not already in this folder will be moved.

This command will save open investment files (*.dat) and your portfolio file (*.mm4) to the specified folder.  If any of these are already located in this folder, they will not be moved.  This command also sets the default folder for new investments.

When there are filename conflicts this command will assign unique filenames for each conflict.  For example, if your portfolio contains 2 investments:

C:\OldData1\Intel.dat

C:\OldData2\Intel.dat

and you are setting the new location to a folder C:\NewData the files will be saved with filenames like this:

C:\NewData\Intel.dat

C:\NewData\Intel_1.dat

This command can be especially useful when transferring data to a new computer, and you want to restore everything to a single specified folder on your new computer.  This command ensures every file has a unique filename, so that it can be restored to a single folder without errors.

This command is also useful when setting up Fund Manager to run in Portable/Cloud Mode and you already have existing local data.

This command does not delete any files.  It only re-saves files that need to be moved to the specified folder.  The original files are left in place.

This command does not change your automatic backup location.  To set that use the General Preferences - Data Dialog.
