Report Preferences - Capital Gains Dialog

This dialog is available from the Options / Report Preferences... menu command under any Report window.

This dialog page allows you to specify preferences on how capital gain reports are displayed. The following options are available:

Holding Term:

Medium Term

Specify the "months" and "years" for medium term capital gains. Shares held longer than this amount of time, and not longer than the long term time, will be categorized as medium term. Shares held for a shorter, or equal, period of time will generate short term capital gains. To not use the medium term category, specify this time period to be greater than or equal to the long term period.

Long Term

Specify the "months" and "years" for long term capital gains. Shares held longer than this amount of time will be categorized as long term. Shares held for a shorter, or equal, period of time will generate either short or medium term capital gains.

Order All Like Term Gains

Together When this option is selected all the short term gains will be listed first, followed by all the medium term gains, and then all the long term gains. With this option off, short, medium, and long term gains from the same sell transaction are kept together.

Exclude Investments:

Exclude Cash Type Investments

Any investments of type “cash” will not be included in any capital gain report when this option is turned on. See Investment Properties - General Dialog.

Exclude Default Cash Account

An investment specified as a default cash account will not be included in any capital gain report when this option is turned on. See Portfolio Properties Dialog.

Exclude Tax Free Investments

Any investments with the "tax free" property" will not be included in any capital gain report when this option is turned on.  See Investment Properties - Other Dialog.

Account Fees:

Include Account Fees in Basis

When this option is turned on any distributions of type "Account Fee" will be added to your tax cost basis.  (Any distributions of type "Return of Capital" are always subtracted from your cost basis.)

Wash Sales:

Use Wash Sale Rules

Turns on/off the application of wash sale rules. When wash sale rules are in effect capital gain reports will display wash sale adjustments. This option also affects the calculation of tax cost basis and unrealized gain/loss in the Custom report and Portfolio Editor fields.  This option is only available in the Professional/Advisor versions.

Advanced: When this option is enabled, wash sale rules are applied to all investments when calculating basis/gain information for Custom reports or Portfolio Editor fields.  For improved speed you can set a registry only option to skip "washing" any investments that are not included in Capital Gain reports.  (See the "Exclude Investments" options above.)  To enable this feature go to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Beiley Software\Fund Manager\CurrentVersion\miscprefs

and create a new string value named "SkipWashingNonCG" and set its value to 1.
