Tax Exchange Format (TXF)

Capital gain report types can be exported to a Tax eXchange Format (TXF) file. This is an ASCII file that can then be imported into most popular tax preparation programs. While viewing any capital gain report select the File / Export to TXF… menu command. The exported TXF file will contain capital gain information from the report being viewed.

Notes On Holding Terms:

Tax preparation programs may use the date acquired and the date sold to determine whether a trade was a long or short term gain. Therefore it is important to make sure the holding periods in Fund Manager are set correctly for your tax rules prior to exporting. See the Report Preferences - Capital Gains Dialog to view or adjust the holding periods. (For users in the United States set both medium and long term holding periods to 0 months and 1 year.)

Notes On Trades With Shares Acquired From Multiple Purchases:

When Fund Manager exports a capital gain entry that had multiple purchase dates, the TXF file will contain the word “various” for the “Date Acquired” field. This may prevent some tax preparation programs from properly categorizing the entry as either long or short term. After importing the TXF file into your tax preparation program you may need to manually adjust the term (long or short) assigned to each trade. To facilitate this process Fund Manager exports such short term trades in lower case as “various” and such long term trades in upper case as “VARIOUS”. This is intended to help you easily identify which capital gain entries with multiple purchase dates should be long term, and which should be short term.
